What does a kitchen renovation include in Farragut and Knoxville?
A kitchen renovation in Farragut and Knoxville can be a full tear-out or a set of focused updates, and most kitchen work sits in between. It can include a tile backsplash, new countertops, painted cabinets with new hardware and crown molding, pendant and under-cabinet lighting, a new sink and faucet, and fresh trim and paint. Curtis Can Do LLC serves Farragut, Knoxville, Oak Ridge and Maryville, Tennessee, and we do the hands-on work ourselves. We start with a walkthrough of your kitchen, talk through what you want changed and what can stay, and tell you which parts need other trades. Price depends on the size of the kitchen, the materials you choose and how much is replaced, so we confirm the scope with you before work starts.
- Keep the layout: most update jobs leave cabinets and appliances where they are.
- Pick one or several: backsplash only, or backsplash plus counters, lighting and paint.
- Walkthrough first: scope, materials and who handles what are settled there.

Six ways to update a kitchen, and what each one changes
You do not have to do everything at once. Pick the pieces that matter most, and we line them up in a sensible order so one job does not undo another.
| Update | What it involves | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| 01Backsplash | Tile set between the counter and the upper cabinets: stacked marble, mosaic, subway or a larger format. We mask the counters, mark the layout off the counter line and the outlets, set the tile, then grout and seal where the material needs it. | The wall you look at every day. It is the quickest way to change a kitchen when the cabinets and counters are staying. |
| 02Countertops | Granite or another surface, set on your existing cabinets. We coordinate the template and the removal of the old top, set the new one, and refit the sink. Edge, seams and sink cutout are settled at the walkthrough. | The work surface and the look of the whole room. Dark granite against cream cabinets is a pairing we have set. |
| 03Cabinet updates | Paint, hardware and crown. We clean and degrease, sand, prime and paint doors and frames, swap pulls and hinges where needed, and add crown molding to close the gap at the ceiling. | Color, feel and finish without tearing out the boxes. A common choice when the layout already works. |
| 04Lighting | Pendants over an island or peninsula and lights under the wall cabinets. We set pendant height and spacing, hang the fixtures and place the under-cabinet runs. Where wiring has to change, we coordinate that and tell you at the walkthrough. | How the room works at night and how the new backsplash looks. Pendants also give a long kitchen a clear center. |
| 05Sink and faucet | Swap the faucet, or set a new sink with the supply and drain reconnected and checked for leaks. We confirm at the walkthrough what the job needs and who handles each part. | The most-used spot in the room. A new sink and faucet change how it feels to cook and clean up. |
| 06Trim and paint | Baseboard, window and door casing, crown and wall paint, cut in clean at the new tile and cabinets. We caulk, fill and sand before paint goes on. | The finish that ties the other updates together. New work next to old, unfinished trim shows. |
How a backsplash goes in, step by step
These four photos are from one marble backsplash job, from tile going on the wall to the finished run at the counter.

Set the tile
Marble mosaic goes onto the wall with blue tape holding the spacing. Counters are masked first.

Hold it while it sets
The run under the cabinets is taped so the tile stays flat and the lines stay straight.

Finish the surface
Tape comes off and the stacked marble reads as one clean wall under the cream cabinets.

Check the edges
The last look is at the line where marble meets granite, then outlets, caulk and clean-up.
Planning a kitchen update in Farragut or Knoxville?
Tell us what you want changed. We will walk the kitchen, talk through the options and confirm the scope before any work starts.
How a kitchen job runs, from walkthrough to clean-up
Five steps, in the order they happen. We protect your counters and cabinets, and we plan around you using the kitchen where we can.
Walkthrough
We look at the kitchen with you: what bothers you, what should stay, and what the job touches. We also tell you if any part needs another trade, and what we will coordinate.
Scope and materials
You pick tile, counter material, hardware and fixtures. We write down what is being done so the scope is clear. Cost and timing depend on that scope, and we confirm both with you before work starts.
Protect and set up
We cover floors, mask counters and wrap cabinets and appliances. Where we can, we plan the work so you keep a sink, a fridge and a spot to make coffee while we work.
Work in a sensible order
Messy work first, then counters, then tile, then lighting and fixtures, with paint and trim last. That order keeps new surfaces clean and avoids redoing finished work.
Final check and clean-up
We walk the finished kitchen with you, fix what needs fixing, and clean up the work area. You get the kitchen back ready to use.
Eight things that move the price of a kitchen renovation
We do not quote numbers before seeing the kitchen. Here is what shapes the number, so you know what to expect at the walkthrough.
- Size of the kitchen. More wall, counter and cabinet face means more material and more hours.
- How much is replaced. Updating a backsplash is a smaller job than new counters, paint, lighting and a sink in the same visit.
- Counter material and edge. Granite or another surface, the edge profile, the seams and the sink cutout all move the number.
- Tile type and pattern. Stacked marble, mosaic, subway and large format set differently and take different amounts of cutting.
- Cabinets: refresh or replace. Paint, hardware and crown are a different scope than new boxes and new doors.
- Lighting and wiring. Hanging pendants on existing wiring is simpler than adding new runs. We confirm what is needed at the walkthrough.
- Plumbing changes. Swapping a faucet is simple. Moving or resizing a sink changes what the job needs and who does it.
- What is behind the old finish. Old tile, uneven walls or worn trim can add prep. We look at it first and tell you what we see.

A planning checklist to bring to the walkthrough
You do not need all of this settled. Work through what you can, and we will help with the rest.
Look and materials
- Write down what bothers you most about the kitchen now.
- Decide what stays: cabinets, layout, appliances, counters.
- Measure the backsplash run, from counter to cabinet.
- Collect tile samples and look at them in your own light.
- Choose a counter material and an edge you like.
- Pick a hardware style and finish for pulls and knobs.
- Pick paint colors for cabinets, walls and trim.
Practical and day-to-day
- Note where pendants should hang and how the island is used.
- Decide if you want lights under the wall cabinets.
- Check the sink and faucet you have now, and what you want.
- List appliance sizes, in case anything is changing.
- Plan where you will cook and eat while work is going on.
- Clear a path from the door to the kitchen for materials.
- Write your questions for the walkthrough.

Kitchen renovation questions, answered
What affects the cost of a kitchen renovation in Farragut?
The scope drives it. Size of the kitchen, how many pieces you update, the counter material, the tile pattern, whether cabinets are painted or replaced, and any lighting or plumbing changes all move the price. We do not guess numbers over the phone. We walk the kitchen, agree on the scope, and give you the price for that work before we start.
How long does a kitchen renovation take?
It depends on the scope and the materials. A backsplash update is a smaller job than new counters, cabinet paint, lighting and trim together, and special-order materials can add waiting time. We talk through timing at the walkthrough once we know what you are doing, and we tell you if something in the plan could change it.
Can I use my kitchen during the work?
Where possible, yes. We plan the work so you keep a sink, a fridge and a place to make coffee for as long as we can. Some steps, like removing counters or setting tile, will limit use for a stretch. We cover floors, mask counters and wrap cabinets, and we talk through how it will go at the walkthrough.
Do you do backsplash-only jobs?
Yes. A backsplash is one of the most common kitchen updates we do, and it works well when your cabinets and counters are staying. We mask the counters, set the tile, grout, and finish the edges at outlets and cabinets. Photos from our own marble backsplash jobs are on this page, and you can add other updates later.
Should I keep my cabinets or replace them?
If the boxes are solid and the layout works, painting, new hardware and crown molding can change the kitchen without replacing anything. If the layout does not work for you, or the cabinets are failing, replacement may make more sense. We look at the cabinets at the walkthrough and tell you honestly which fits your goals.
Who handles plumbing and electrical work?
We coordinate what the job needs and tell you at the walkthrough which parts need which trade. A faucet swap or hanging pendants is different from moving a sink or adding new wiring. We do not assume anything before we see the kitchen. Once we have looked, you will know what is involved and who does each part.
What areas do you serve for kitchen renovation?
